I was on NPR “Weekend Edition Saturday” Discussing Older Employees With Younger Bosses
Hey All,
Just wanted to let you know about a news story that ran today on NPR’s popular show, “Weekend Edition Saturday”. And their fabulous reporter/producer, Tamara Keith, did a pre-recorded interview with me for commentary to include.
Today’s segment was entitled “Young Bosses Push Elders to Embrace Technology”. Click on that to view the written article on NPR’s website and to access the audio spot that aired this morning. They started the story by discussing how, as a 47 year-old member of Generation Jones, President Obama embraces technology and wants to use a Blackberry for communicating with his cabinet and team, even though security risk has been suggested.
Aside from me, also interviewed for the story was 38 year-old Washington D.C. Mayor, Adrian Fenty, a self proclaimed Blackberry addict, who discussed the importance of using a Blackberry (or similar) for effective communication. And 41 year-old Serena Software CEO, Jeremy Burton, was also interviewed discussing how he now requires his employees (from all generations) to us Facebook.
With the influx of Millennials (Gen Y) now getting into management positions, the pressure is building for older employees to accept new technology and get up-to-speed. The Millennials will be bringing it more and more into the workplace, so providing new media training for older employees will be imperative.
You can check out my blog about my appearance on ABC’s “The View From the Bay” where I explain things that older employees can do to get up-to-speed with their younger bosses.
Bye for now!
Lisa

Greetings – I’m looking for a citation related to a news story — it was about the benefits to older women who embrace technology. Do you recall this one?
Thanks
